Since Singapore is a food paradise, visitors must experience what the locals pride themselves on: Tasty, yet inexpensive food in our neighbourhood hawker centers, two of which can lay claim to 1 Michelin star! In addition, you will also experience first-hand how locals live and play as we explore Singapore’s heartlands.


  • Morning: Breakfast at a coffee shop in Balestier where we get to try Singapore’s famous Bak Kut Teh. This is followed by a walking tour in the Balestier area where we marvel at the Peranakan architecture and visit post-war shophouses along the way. You will see the traditional old-school bakery and the iconic optical shop, momentarily taking you back to the 60s. Armed with historical and geographical knowledge, I will be sharing the past and the present stories about each area with you. En-route, you will visit the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall where you can expect to view over 400 artifacts and calligraphy works from the man himself.
  • Afternoon: We will then continue our food tour to one of Singapore’s oldest housing estates, either Ang Mo Kio or Toa Payoh. Here, you will be able to experience dining in a hawker centre, unique to Singapore, where your tastebuds will be spoilt for choice. Not to worry as you will have the chance to sample many small eats at very reasonable prices! Following which, we will take a walk in the vicinity, giving you an insight as to how locals live and play within each self-contained township.

All you need for this tour is an empty stomach, comfortable clothes and footwear!

To fully enjoy and appreciate the local guide experience, small group (max 4 pax) bookings are preferred.

Fluent in English and Mandarin, KWANG WEI specialises in the history and geography of Singapore. He has been a Singapore Tourism Board (STB) licensed guide for the past 6 years and has experiences conducting both group and personalized tours.

Currently, he is attached to MeGuideU Pte Ltd and his recent engagements have involved interesting food tours to many off-beaten tracks.
